A new clinical study on the link between cancer and diet contains vital information for patients who are trying to survive mesothelioma, a deadly cancer affecting the lining of the lungs.

The clinical study was conducted by clinical researchers at Tufts University and was published this week in JNCI Cancer Spectrum. It makes a comparison between American diets and rates of several forms of cancer in 2015. (surviving mesothelioma.com)

The goal of the clinical study was to find out how many cancer cases could be blamed on a poor diet. The clinical study did not actually focus on mesothelioma, but patients who want to improve their outcomes with the disease would be smart to study the findings.

Poor Nutrition Can Cause Cancer

The researchers at Tufts University believe that more than 80,000 cancer cases diagnosed in 2015 were because of poor diet. That is at least 5% of all of the new cancer cases that year.

Colon cancer was found to have the closest link to a poor diet, followed by cancers in the mouth, larynx and pharynx. The clinical team named seven poor dietary habits that can increase the chance for cancer, either by leading to obesity or directly. They are as follows:

  • Not eating whole grains
  • Not eating enough dairy
  • Eating too many processed meats
  • Eating too much red meat
  • Not eating enough fruit
  • Not eating enough vegetables
  • Drinking too many beverages with sugar

The findings of the study stress the opportunity to reduce the chances of getting cancer and disparities in the US by boosting food intake.

How Can Diet and Lifestyle Help to Beat Mesothelioma?

Unlike many other types of cancer, doctors know very well what causes mesothelioma. People who have been exposed to asbestos have a higher risk of developing this deadly disease. Once a person gets exposure to asbestos, there is no way to get the tiny fibers out of the body.

Although mesothelioma is not caused by poor diet, nutrition can still have a pivotal role in your survival of the disease. Many studies indicate that people who are in top physical condition, such as eating well, at the beginning of treatment for mesothelioma have the best medical outcomes. Aso, patients who beat mesothelioma often are those with the most healthy lifestyles.

Paul Kraus is the longest, documented mesothelioma survivor in the world, and he has managed to stay on top of the disease for 20 years. He credits his many years of survival to a high fruit, vegetable and whole grains diet. He also gets plenty of exercise, takes supplements and meditates.

Based on the clinical study at Tufts University, patients who want to beat mesothelioma should be advised to reduce how much processed meats they eat and eat more fruit, vegetables, whole grains and dairy.

Overview of Mesothelioma Personal Injury Lawsuits

If you are diagnosed with mesothelioma and it is proven that your exposure came from the asbestos containing products by a specific company, you could be entitled to damages under state and federal law. To file such a claim successfully, these points need to be proven:

  • The point of exposure must be clear. For you to receive damages for your mesothelioma, you must know without a doubt how you were exposed to asbestos. Your mesothelioma attorney can access vast research resources to learn where and when you may have been exposed to the deadly substance during your work.
  • Negligence: The legal claim must show that the firm know its product had asbestos in it, and the company failed to provide any warnings to consumers.
  • Diagnosis: You must have been diagnosed with mesothelioma and indicate that the disease has affected you negatively.

Anyone who has mesothelioma should know it is nearly always from years of asbestos exposure on the job. Many companies product products that have asbestos in them and knew of the multiple dangers of being exposed to asbestos, but continued to sell and market the asbestos containing products and they did not warn consumers or workers. The motive usually comes down to profit for the organization. Asbestos is very inexpensive and highly resistant to heat and fire. But many consumers over the years were not really protected by asbestos and actually were given a virtual death sentence by getting mesothelioma.

If you have been diagnosed with mesothelioma or ovarian cancer and think it is due to asbestos exposure, it is important to talk to a mesothelioma attorney right away.
