Posen Construction recently agreed to clean up the asbestos they failed to properly dispose of after their project in Florida.
The asbestos was reportedly left on the 70-acre site just northeast of Alico Road.
Company Chooses to Cooperate
Last week Posen, which is a Michigan-based contractor, met with the Florida Department of Environmental Protection and Lee County Utilities.
The DEP told Posen that they must immediately clean up and dispose of the asbestos chunks that were left at the site.
“Posen was very willing to initiate that and get that process started,” says Elijah Fleishauer, spokesman for the DEP.
Clean Up Ordered
The state supposedly contracted Posen for the $15.7 million widening of Alico Road from two to six lanes.
Posen also had a contract with Lee County Utilities stating that they would dispose of the asbestos located on the site when the project was finished.
However, the asbestos was never removed from the site and the DEP and County decided it was time to take action.
