According to reports, the U.S. Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) has issued citations regarding asbestos to two construction companies in Colorado.
The citation comes in the aftermath of a fatal accident that occurred at Aspen Middle School.
Asbestos Being Improperly Removed
Juan Ruiz, 29, was reportedly killed while he was removing asbestos and a cinder-block wall toppled on top of him.
Ruiz was working for Denver-based ESA, Inc. who are being fined for not properly removing the asbestos or keeping their employees safe.
Accusations Made Against Asbestos Removal Companies
The OSHA found that the ESA did nothing to help educate its employees about safely removing the substance so as release it or prevent harm to themselves.
The agency also claims the company didn’t properly determine the asbestos cancer dangers before beginning the abatement.
Reports also state that the ESA didn’t monitor the asbestos removal practices adequately.
As a result, the ESA was fined $1, 750 and a proper cleanup has been requested by the first week of September.
