Kansas Refinery Cited by OSHA

According to reports, the U.S. Department of Labor’s Occupational Safety and Health Administration has cited a local refinery for asbestos violations.

Frontier El Dorado Refining Co. was cited for violating federal safety and health standards and is facing penalties of up to $140,000.

Employee Exposes Asbestos Violations

An employee at the refinery reportedly exposed the asbestos cancer problems and these issues were confirmed after the OSHA launched an investigation.

An estimated 100 employees were reportedly exposed to asbestos cancer that was released during pipe tie-in tasks.

“Our inspection revealed Frontier El Dorado Refining Co. did not require subcontractors at its facility to comply with OSHA regulations while handling asbestos containing material,” explains Charles E. Adkins, the OSHA’s regional administrator.

Asbestos Violations Present Hazards

The violations present numerous hazards to those working at the refinery and residents in local communities near the refineries.

The OSHA claims El Dorado failed to certify compliance with OSHA’s asbestos standard for construction.

They also are accusing the company of lacking employer/employee notification of the presence of asbestos in the workplace.
