EPA Keeps a Lookout for Asbestos Cancer

Residents in San Antonio, TX, have grown increasingly worried about being exposed to asbestos cancer in recent months.

The neighborhoods near the Blue Star Arts complex have reportedly been in question regarding asbestos contamination.

EPA Runs Asbestos Tests

Examiners from the Environmental Protection Agency have begun taking soil samples in the suspected areas of San Antonio.

According to an agency spokesman, the agency has been working on activity based sampling to conduct the asbestos testing.

Asbestos Found in Initial Tests

The EPA claims that in their initial testing, asbestos was found in the soil in the neighborhoods being questioned.

Residents are now more concerned than ever since asbestos can lead to various lung diseases and types of asbestos cancer.

“People have gotten sick and I’ve heard of cases in which some have died of mesothelioma cancer,” says resident, Helen Garza.

If excessive amounts of asbestos are found when the EPA concludes their testing, they have promised to remove the contaminated soil and replace it with healthy soil.
