The first week of April has been deemed National Asbestos Awareness Week by the United States Senate.
The law firm in South Carolina, Motley Rice LLC, is lending their support to the week and believes it's essential for research on asbestos and asbestos related illnesses to continue.
The Influence of Asbestos on Our Lives
Among those who are dedicating their time and knowledge to the cause is Ron Wood, a client at Motley Rice.
Wood was diagnosed with asbestosis and is now determined to raise awareness about asbestos and the illnesses that are associated with exposure to the substance.
Wood feels particularly passionate about raising awareness about asbestos since he recently lost his son to mesothelioma, a fatal form of cancer caused by exposure to asbestos.
“Losing a child is the worst thing that can happen to you, and I carry the guilt every day of knowing I exposed him to asbestos,” states Wood, who trains employees in environmental safety and health.
Joining Together to Educate
“I applaud the Senate for recognizing the need to draw more attention to this important topic,” says Motley Rice member, John Herrick.
According to reports, asbestos has been a cause for concern throughout South Carolina, from the Naval Base to the many textile plants.
“Victims of asbestos-related diseases and their families have a voice and a message to be heard,” says Herrick. “They are uniting together to push for improved rights to treatment, research, and prevention.”
