The Alfacell Corporation announced today that they are entering the final phase of their clinical trial for ONCONASE.
Study Details
According to reports, 428 patients have been enrolled in this study for the mesothelioma treatment.
311 patient deaths have occurred since the beginning of the trial and researchers say that they must wait until 316 deaths happen before they can conduct a statistical analysis and complete the final stages of the trial.
ONCONASE to Treat Mesothelioma
ONCONASE is a natural protein taken from the leopard frog that is being tested to treat patients with unresectable malignant mesothelioma.
It has been shown to specifically target cancer cells while not harming normal cells in the process.
ONCONASE supposedly triggers apoptosis, which is the natural death of the cells, using various mechanisms of action.
