$7.5M Settlement Reached in Asbestos Cancer Case

A settlement was recently reached in an asbestos cancer suit filed by a woman living in New Jersey against ExxonMobil.

The suit was filed shortly after the woman was diagnosed with peritoneal mesothelioma, which she claimed was caused by the asbestos fibers she inhaled from washing her husband’s work clothing.

Second Hand Exposure Leads to Asbestos Cancer Illness

Bonnie Anderson filed the suit claiming that for ten years she was exposed to asbestos fibers being brought home on her husband, John’s, clothing without her knowledge.

Anderson says that she washed her husband’s clothing daily after he worked at the Bayway Refinery.

According to reports, John was employed as a process operator at the refinery, which was previously owned by ExxonMobil.

Mesothelioma Cancer Suit Details

The jury found ExxonMobil guilty of negligence and blamed them for Anderson’s development of mesothelioma cancer, which is a life-threatening illness caused solely by asbestos exposure.
Anderson and her husband were awarded $7.5 million by ExxonMobil.
