Travel and Lodging at Mesothelioma Cancer Centers

Sometimes the mesothelioma treatment that an individual needs is only available at a significant distance from the patient's home, requiring that the patient to travel out-of-state for an extended period of time. Dealing with the diagnosis of mesothelioma cancer is difficult enough as it is; when a patient needs treatment that can only be obtained in a new, far-away setting, it can be another challenge to arrange both the travel to that setting and a place for the patient to stay.

Assistance is Available

A mesothelioma patient and his or her family members usually do not need to try to work out their travel and lodging plans all by themselves. At the very least, a cancer center will give some telephone assistance regarding how to get to the center and where visitors can stay. Many cancer centers have established programs to help the mesothelioma patients in their care with travel plans and lodging, whether it's short-term (for example, for a few days of medical tests or treatment) or long-term (for weeks or months).

Discounted Services, Travel Help

Some mesothelioma cancer centers have arrangements with local hotels, airlines and ground transportation services that provide travel and lodging to mesothelioma patients at a discount. A few major cancer centers even have a full-service travel agency to help the mesothelioma cancer and other cancer patients in their care.

International travel by mesothelioma patients is also a consideration at some cancer centers. A patient may wish to obtain a visa to be able to stay in the country while receiving long-term treatment.
